Abstract

This internship report is based on the internship activities conducted at the Soil Laboratory of PT Tigenco Graha Persada, specifically within the Geotechnical and Geology Laboratory Subdivision. The objectives of this internship were to understand the application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the soil testing process, identify challenges encountered during testing, and analyze the impact of these challenges on the smooth operation of the laboratory. The methods used in preparing this report include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the observations indicate that the implementation of SOPs for Sieve Analysis and Hydrometer Tests has been carried out in accordance with ASTM standards and applicable laboratory procedures, from sample receipt to the reporting of test results. However, several challenges were still identified, namely an overload of test samples, discrepancies in sample weight during the Sieve Analysis, the potential for human error in recording test results, and limitations in laboratory capacity. These challenges affect the laboratory’s operational effectiveness, the timeliness of test completion, and the accuracy of test results. Therefore, improvements are needed in sample management, monitoring of SOP implementation, and optimization of laboratory resources to enhance the quality and efficiency of soil testing services.
